The University of Zurich Tierspital announces 2 Rotating Internship positions with focus in Emergency and Critical Care Medicine starting October and November 2020.

Internship Emergency and Critical Care

The 1-year program is designed to train candidates in the practice of small animal emergency and critical care as well as provide a stepping stone to further specialty training or practice. The training program includes a minimum of 7 weeks of clinical rotations in Surgery and Internal Medicine.  
Supervised immersion training will take place in the small animal emergency service and intensive care of the Tierspital under the direct mentorship of ACVECC/ECVECC Diplomates. The emergency department and intensive care unit are fully equipped to provide state-of-the art care for emergent and critically ill patients.  
Interns will participate in daytime and after-hours shifts with the Tierspital emergency and critical service. Interns participate in daily patient rounds, weekly journal and book clubs, and weekly rounds and seminars. All interns are expected to provide a state-of-the-art case presentation to the Tierspital community during the course of their employment. Publication opportunities are encouraged and supported.  
 
The clinical schedule of the ER internship program covers the 52 weeks (1 year) of standard training as follows: 
 
- ER primary receiving with direct supervision: up to 31 weeks 
 
- Nightshift ER primary receiving (direct supervision until 24:00  
and on-call backup until 7AM): up to 12 weeks  
 
- ICU rotation with direct supervision: 9 weeks 
 
- Rotations in other veterinary specialty services: minimum  
of 7 weeks 
 
- Standard vacation time: 5 weeks 
 
We recommend that the applicant obtains 2 letters of reference by training mentors who can attest to the commitment and pleasant personality of the applicant. Factors favouring an applicant’s acceptance to the program include excellent communication and interpersonal relationship skills. A mandatory requirement is the knowledge of German language, spoken and written at least at B2 level.
